ABOUT ME

Hi, I’m Roi Jennings,
Born and raised in Oakland, CA, I come from a community deeply rooted in movements for equity, social justice, and cultural resilience. As a child of this city—full of richness, creativity, and depth—I also witnessed how Oakland was overlooked and sensationalized. Too often, the rough edges were amplified while the resilience, artistry, and roses that grew through concrete were ignored. Oakland became the shadow side of the Bay Area, a place avoided by those who couldn’t see its brilliance.

I grew up walking within those shadows. And what I learned is that healing often begins in the dark. Birth takes place in the darkness of the womb. Roots take hold in the shade of the soil. Transformation is born where we least expect it. I was shaped in Oakland’s belly, where my own inner light merged with the fertile ground around me, allowing me to grow forward—carrying both the shadows and the light. This truth has carried me through the many iterations and rebirths of my life.

I am a spiritual seeker who has cultivated my own access points to spirit and ancestral wisdom—pathways that sustain me personally and inform my praxis. This connection grounds my therapeutic work in reverence, reminding me that healing is not only individual but also interwoven with lineage, culture, and the unseen forces that guide us.

Professionally, I have dedicated myself to working in nonprofit spaces in Oakland, creating access for communities historically underserved in trades, STEM, and academic pathways. In this work, I have walked alongside people navigating systems that often feel overwhelming or unsafe. My role has always been to support others in finding ways to thrive in those spaces without losing themselves—to honor personal, cultural, and spiritual wisdom while negotiating larger systemic realities.

I hold a BA in Psychology from San Francisco State University and a Master’s in Integral Counseling Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies. I am currently an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist working toward licensure, with experience supporting families, adolescents, and adults. My approach is deeply shaped by trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and liberation psychology, making space for the whole of who you are—your history, your lineage, and your spirit.

Outside of my professional work, I am also a mother of four incredible children ranging from toddlers to teenagers, each on their own path of self-discovery. My lived experience of being married, divorced, and remarried has further deepened my compassion for the complexities of relationship and growth. I share my home with my partner, our kids, a dog, two cats, and two fish—all of whom remind me daily of the joy and chaos of love in its many forms.
